Firmware Update

Update your MUGIC® device over the USB-C cable, right from your browser — no terminal or install needed. Choose a firmware version, then either flash it over USB — connect the device and click Update — or simply download the file.

Curious what changed? See the firmware release notes.

For the occasional upgrade, an over-the-air (OTA) update is the easier way and should be your first choice. Use this page instead when:

  • OTA is failing or unavailable, or
  • you need to flash several devices in a row.

Before you start:

  • Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Safari and Firefox are not supported). If no device appears when you click Connect, install the free CH34x USB driver (macOS 13+ usually has it built in; Windows normally needs it once), then reconnect.
  • Use a USB-C data cable — one that can sync a phone or transfer files. The cable that came with your MUGIC is power-only and will not work for flashing.

Then, on the right:

  1. Choose a firmware version — the latest hosted release, or your own main.bin file.
  2. Then do one of two things:
    • Flash it over USB — connect the device (the installed version is shown automatically), then click Update firmware and wait; do not unplug until it finishes. The device restarts into the new firmware.
    • Or simply download the firmware file to your computer — to flash later, keep a backup, or use with the on-device OTA updater.

Then do one of the following:

Download firmware

Save the firmware you selected above to your computer — handy for flashing later, keeping a backup, or using with the on-device OTA updater.

How to update over the air (OTA)
  1. Download the latest firmware using the Download firmware button on this page (step 2b, on the right), or from the firmware release notes. You'll get a file like main.bin.
  2. Connect to your MUGIC® in AP mode.
  3. Visit http://192.168.4.1/upgrade in your browser.
  4. On that page, click Choose File and select the firmware file from your Downloads folder.
  5. Click Upload. A progress banner will eventually indicate “Progress 100%”.

Wait up to a minute for validation, until the page says “Firmware upgraded. Device restarting.” The device will restart with the new firmware installed. You can reconnect to it, if needed, and verify the new version by visiting http://192.168.4.1/.

Not connected

Connecting only reads your device’s current firmware version — you don’t have to flash. Click Disconnect when you are done — the device will restart into its firmware.

Advanced: full flash (rarely needed)
Most people should never use this. Your MUGIC ships with a working system. A full flash rewrites the bootloader, partition table and OTA data, and is only needed if the partition table changed. Doing it with the wrong files can brick the device.
bootloader.bin (0x0):
partition-table.bin (0x8000):
ota_data_initial.bin (0x19000):
main.bin (0x20000):
